Impacting the Lives of Children

“…so they can grow up not having to get it all wrong before they can get it right.”

As I was reading my devotion this morning, that sentence stopped me. It made me think. It made me ask myself, “Am I doing this?”

Proverbs 22:6 came to mind:

“Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.”

That verse led me to some honest reflection. Am I showing the children in my life how to use God’s Word to guide their steps, their decisions, and their actions? Am I actively teaching them how to turn to Scripture—or am I leaving them to figure things out the hard way?

Hard lessons are sometimes unavoidable, but not everything has to be hard. Ephesians 6:4 reminds us:

“And you, fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord.”

As adults with children in our lives—whether in our families, workplaces, neighborhoods, or churches—we carry influence. The question is: Are we using it well? Are we impacting the lives of children in a way that helps them avoid mistakes we wish someone had warned us about? Are we helping them grow in wisdom before pain becomes their teacher?
